You can opt out of the Scheme at any time.
Please note that you can only opt out of the scheme once you have started that post/job.
However this will end the valuable protection for your family that being a member provides, plus your tax and National Insurance contributions will increase. Therefore you may wish to take independent financial advice before making a decision to opt out.
The benefits on opting out, if any, are the same as if you resigned from your employment. If you opted out before any pension contributions were taken from your payslip then you have no benefits in the LGPS.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you may wish to consider the 50/50 scheme.
Should you wish to opt out you will need to complete the Opt Out form available from our Forms and Resources page and send it to your payroll department / bureau.
Please note: If your Employer is in the process of Auto-Enrolment and you previously opted out; then you will have been enrolled back into the scheme.
Therefore if you would like to opt out, then you will have to complete the above Opt Out form again. If you are unsure whether your Employer is conducting Auto-Enrolment, please consult your payroll department / bureau.
