Any member whose employment with you started within the last 12 months, may be entitled to transfer any previous pension benefits they have into the LGPS.
LGPS England and Wales
If their previous pension benefits are with another LGPS fund in England or Wales, the transfer will be done automatically. We will write to notify the member before this takes place. If they do not wish to transfer their previous LGPS benefits, they will need to inform us of this using the form provided with the notification letter they receive.
All other pension schemes
If they have previous pension benefits with another LGPS fund in Scotland or Northern Ireland or pension benefits with any other scheme, they will need to apply to transfer these benefits into the LGPS. These benefits will not be transfered automatically.
If a member would like to transfer pension benefits from an LGPS fund in Scotland or Northern Ireland or from any other pension fund, they will need to complete the Transfer In Pack (Non England and Wales LGPS) available on our Forms and Resources page.
Unfortunately, if their employment with you started more than 12 months ago, they will not generally be able to transfer previous pension benefits into the LGPS. However, as long as the LGSS Pensions agrees, you can extend this deadline in exceptional circumstances.
