Responsible investment – Cambridgeshire Pension Fund

We’ve worked hard to develop an enhanced responsible investment (RI) policy, which forms part of our overall investment strategy statement. The new RI policy will help us to manage the carbon and climate risks impacting our investments better. It also shows our support for the Paris Agreement, for a ‘just transition’ (one that is fair to individuals and communities) and sets out a net zero commitment. Further details on these areas are included in the revised policy.

The RI policy was agreed following a consultation that was open to scheme members as well as each scheme employer and we’ve prepared a summary of the consultation responses we had. You can find a copy of the summary and updated investment strategy statement on our key documents page.

The revised RI policy will inevitably mean some changes to the underlying investments of the Fund over time. We’ll be communicating these plans in 2022 as they’re formulated and agreed by the Pensions Committee and Investment Sub-Committee. Such plans will include decarbonisation of the portfolio and making sure we’re investing in sustainable assets.

Our main responsibility is to make sure we can pay pensions when they’re due. Any changes will therefore be carefully considered and subject to appropriate professional advice to make sure investment returns and value are maintained.

We’ll continue to update this page as we have further information to share.
