What to do if a member goes on reserve forces leave

If a member goes on reserve forces leave and chooses to stay in the LGPS, you must work out their pension using their assumed pensionable pay (APP). This makes sure they keep building up pension benefits as if they were still at work.

You need to tell the member:

The member should give this information to the MoD. The MoD will take the correct pension contributions and pay them to us, along with any employer contributions due.

Don’t take pension contributions from any pay the member gets from you during their reserve forces leave.

To find out how to work out APP, see the ‘Work out your members’ pay page. The LGPS also offers some bite size training on APP.
